FOOTBRIDGE THUGS HURL MASSIVE DRAIN COVER THROUGH WINDSCREEN OF PASSING CAR AS MAZDA OCCUPANTS ARE LUCKY TO ESCAPE WITH THEIR LIVES

  • The terrifying incident took place in Coventry on Wednesday afternoon

Police are hunting for thugs who threw a drain cover through windscreen of a moving car, leaving the occupants lucky to escape with their lives.

The Mazda vehicle had been driving along a road in Coventry when it was struck from above by the falling metal object.

Incredibly no one was seriously injured in the incident, which saw the cover skewer  through the glass, dashboard and into the driver's footwell.

It is believed the item was thrown off a footbridge onto a busy dual carriageway below at around 1pm on Wednesday afternoon.

Police have said the incident is 'extremely serious' and are now hunting for the people responsible.

In an appeal released on social media, West Midlands Police said: 'Were you driving in Jimmy Hill Way, Coventry, yesterday afternoon?

'We're appealing to anyone who was in the area shortly after 1pm after a drain cover was thrown at a moving car.

'The drain cover was thrown from the footbridge of Caludon Road, hitting a car below, smashing its windscreen.

'Amazingly, the occupants in the car avoided serious injury, but we are determined to find out who was responsible for what could have been an extremely serious incident.'

They continued: 'If you were in the area at the time, either driving on Jimmy Hill Way or up above in Caludon Road, we are keen to hear what you saw.

'We're especially keen to see any dashcam footage from drivers in the area.'

Anyone who might have seen anything or have any information is asked to contact West Midlands Police on 101 or Live Chat, quoting crime number 20/355038/24.
